I have dumped and stashed and pilled on my dining room table for the LAST time!!
For the last 2 months (ok, for the last 2 years even before writing this blog) I have used my dining room as a catch all. It is right off of every room on my main floor and is used the least, so there fore it gets the most 'dumped' in it. The 'I will put it away later' stuff. I knew I would soon need a place to do my paining other than outside once the weather is not so nice. Pus, I really want to park my car in the garage when it is snowing. So I had to decide where to make a new home for all my crafty stuff. I thought about our den which is like a 'living' room. You know, that room at the front of your house that people see first when they come in? The room that when I was growing up we were not allowed in except when we needed a place to take pictures of when I went to dances in High School with a date. No, that wouldn't work. I also did not want to take over the guest room that is in our lower level. The play room is 1/2 finished and we just put down carpet and rearranged it so the TV (dresser turned media) would house all the movies and video games, so THAT wouldn't work. But just outside the guest room is a little area that is big enough for my makeshift desk and a few chairs and a shelf for all my paint & supplies.
The ASCP Stenciled chest from an earlier post, and holds a lot of supplies from fabric to tools. The purple chair I picked up Saturday! I love it!! The legs may get a paint job, we shall see as they are just a plain stained color. Only one wall is 1/2 dry walled, and not even finished! But that didn't stop me from putting picture and things I love on the wall anyway!!
The 2 antique wicker chairs I have had for several years waiting to be refinished! They need paint and new cushions. Now that I have my new sewing machine, that will happen! The pillows were a thrift store find and I just put them there for some color. The child's metal tea cart I have also had for years and I love it!! The floor lamp is a from Pottery Barn and was used in my kids nursery.
Yep, I am right next to the furnace, but I am so thrilled to have a space all my own, I do not care!!
The table is a large wicker table that matches the antique wicker chairs. I did not want to ruin the finish, so I just put a left over piece of bead board on top. Next to it is an old East lake table (not a favorite style of furniture, but it was $10). Just a place for my new sewing machine while I am not using it.
My paint and supplies are close at hand, but now very organized!
I like that I face the other side of the room, so I can see the kids. The green round rug used to be
in the play area, but was replaced by a huge rug (11x17!!). I will show the new play are another post.
I have added some of my favorite things and I think I will be very happy here.
My dining room will be happy too!!!

Spectacular! I adore your purple chair.
ReplyDeleteI love my basement room.. even though I'm also sharing with the furnace. I don't ever have to worry about a paint or paper mess when I'm in the middle of a big project.
Congrats on your new space, Patricia
I can so relate to this! Right now my dining room table is piled with Fall creations in various stages of completion. I don't have a creative space so, I am jealous of yours! :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic! We want proof that the dining room is truly clean though!
ReplyDeleteI love it and I want one, an extra space and a purple chair. You did a great job and I hope it works fabulously for you.
