Wait A Wee Meenit Wednesday's #2 Link party and features

So my first Link party is still open cause I didn't know what I was doing now closed.
I have had a busy week and did not do a whole lot to promote this party, but I do appreciate all of you that did link up, I love to be inspired by everything!

Here are my favorites.
So, first up is the

Emperor's Red dresser makeover that Amy from The Salvage Collection finished

She know I love it and that if she were closer, I would break into her home, leave all the cash, jewels and electronics and go straight for this bad boy! It is my favorite furniture redo in all of blog land!
Plus Amy is hella funny and talented, so go see her!!

Next up is this Burlap Valentine Wreath from Amanda @ My Hearts Desire.

She added her red burlap to a wreath she used for other seasons, leaving the Burlap intact. How genius of her, and I love the red/tan color scheme going on. I also learned you can get a wire heart wreath from Hobby Lobby, who knew!

Next up is from Carolyn From Homework and her Valentine Twig Arrows.

Why did none of us think of this! I mean, what in the world is Cupid supposed to shoot you with???
These are so simple to make and I am sure most of us have everything needed on hand. Bravo!

And lastly, but not leastly (?) is this Photo Wall Art from Natalie over at North Shore Days.

They are photos she blew up of her Frangipani Trees she has out by her pool. She reused the words she had on a gallery wall and now they are the star of the dining room!

If you were featured grab my button (a 'featured' button is in the works.)

The party will start early on Wednesdays and will run through Tuesday of the following week. You can link up anything you are proud of. It can be a craft, furniture refinishing, anything DIY, a recipe, tips or tutorials, I am not picky! There are some rules, but not to many and they are not too strict. If you would like to have a chance to be featured, make sure you follow these simple rules.
  1. Be a follower of a wee Meenit.
  2. Make sure to add my button to the post you are linking up.
  3. Try to look around at fellow link ups. Sometimes something that doesn't look that interesting in a space the size of a postage stamp can be deceiving, but if you click it anyway, you will be amazed at all the stuff you could have missed.
  4. no giveaways or Etsy shops
That's it!!

Girl Scout cookie recipes and trivia

We in Eastern Missouri will begin ordering Girl Scout cookies on Saturday the 21st of January. Did you know that every state has a different time of the year that they sell the cookies?

Peanut Butter PattiesShortbreadThin MintsThanks-a-lotCarmel Delites

Here is some info about the cookie sales:
The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led business in the world. Through the cookie program, Girl Scouts have fun while developing five essential life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

All proceeds from the cookie sales stay within our community to benefit local girls. Girl Scout troops use the money for field trips and community service projects. These funds help Girl Scouts deliver programs for girls, provide training for adult volunteers, and maintain local Girl Scout camps.

The biggest sellers are:
  • 25% Thin Mints®
  • 19% Samoas®/Caramel deLites®
  • 13% Peanut Butter Patties®/Tagalongs®
  • 11% Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos®
  • 9% Shortbread/Trefoils®
The other varieties combined account for the remaining 23%. imitated but never duplicated, Peanut Butter Patties have been in the Girl Scout Cookie line for over 30 years. They are the 3rd best selling Girl Scout Cookie and are among the top 10 best selling cookies in America.
Currently, two commercial bakers are licensed by the national Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, to produce Girl Scout Cookies: ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. Did you know that Girl Scout cookies do not contain any preservatives?Over 200 million boxes of cookies are sold every year, a tradition that started in 1917. The cookies then were made by each troop. It wasn't until1934 that they became commercially baked cookies.
Girl Scout Councils choose their licensed baker, either Little Brownie Bakers or ABC Bakers. Each of the bakers owns its cookie names, except THIN MINTS® and TREFOILS®, which GSUSA owns. So a cookie like the Trefoil / Shortbread may look and taste similar, but your local Girl Scout council determines which one will be on the market when they select their baker.
Girl Scout cookies are also Kosher.
By eliminating the carton on Thanks-A-Lot cookies this year, Girl Scouts® of the USA
and ABC Bakers are taking over 150 tons of paperboard out of the waste stream.
Saves enough paperboard to fill 14 garbage trucks*. Yields energy savings equivalent
to 30,000 gallons of gasoline.
If you really do not want the cookies, you can choose to take advantage of their cookie Share.
You can purchase the cookies and the troop will decide where they would like to donate you cookies. This is the only way you are elligable for a tax deduction from the cookies!

I personally can not resist them, but wanted to know if there was anyway I could gorge on them bake with the left over cookies. I found some recipes here.

Here are some I found on the Internet

Pretty in Pink

I have never been a huge fan of Pink. Until I started seeing all this fabulous pink showing up in peoples crafts, and homes around bloggerville. I wanted to make a Valentine wreath, but something a little different than the typical red. So I headed to Pinterest because I am an addict to look for a little inspiration. I loved this wreath from Babblings and More.

I love the different fabrics she used, and the texture is perfect!

Then when I was packing up my Vintage tree and ornaments I noticed that most of the balls where Pink.

So I kept those aside and placed them in a silver bread basket.

A crystal bowl wood look beautiful too, but I do not have one large enough.

I also added a few of the silver ones.

Wyatt kept sneaking his hand in the photo to bug his mother,
cause that's what this 4.5 year old finds amusing.

And here is my wreath.

I used the Pinterest wreath and the colors of the vintage ornaments as inspiration.

So here is how it came together. I ran to Joanne's and got a little fabric and a Styrofoam round.
I bought a 1/2 yard of Burlap and a quarter yard of the 3 coordinating fabrics.

I chose Ivory Burlap (didn't even know it existed in this shade).

I wrapped the Burlap around the wreath not cutting any notches in it as I liked the burlap
pleated look, then pinned it to the wreath along the way.

The grey fabric I chose is actually flannel. I wanted it to have the same feel as the vintage balls,
so this was as close to silver as I wanted.

There are tutorials on how to make flat flowers out of fabric or paper, but having never read them, here is my version. Not sure if they are better or worse, this is just what I did.

Start coiling the center of the flower, twisting the burlap as you go. After an inch or so, twist the fabric the opposite direction.  Making sure you hold the flower very tightly as it will want to unroll on you.

The Burlap is harder to keep compact and tight as it is bulkier, but I liked the added texture it gave me.

Carefully turn over the flower, still holding it together tight and place a line of hot glue across the entire back. Hold for a minute, then lay down for it to cool completely.

I love this soft pink fabric, it has a few of stripes running through it, again a bit of added texture.

I coiled it the same way as the burlap then placed a long straight pin through the side of the flower
(figured this out after I did a burlap one).

Isn't she pretty? I then had to hot glue them to the wreath.

The last bit of fabric had pink, white and grey in it. I layered some of the flowers so I could fit them all on. I think the inspiration wreath is bigger than mine. I stuck a few of the straight pins in the center of the flowers, for a little extra support. I used that to make a few flowers and hang the wreath
from. I had some silver wired ribbon that I made a bow with, not sure it I like it on there or not.
What do you think?
Are you using some unconventional colors to decorate for Valentines day?
